Brewers defeat Medgar Evers, advance to championship match-up with McDaniel

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ‚ Senior forward Carleen Aubee (Chepachet, R.I.) became just the sixth womenís basketball player in Vassarís history to score 1000 career points, as the Brewers defeated Medgar Evers College 84-22 in the first round of the Vassar Invitational Friday evening at the Athletic & Fitness Center.

Aubee--who had scored 984 points in her first three seasons at Vassar--scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half as the Brewers built a 51-10 lead at halftime. Sophomore guard Stacey Tiamfook (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on seven of eight shots for 15 points. She also added four assists and six steals for Vassar (1-0). Freshman guard Meredith McGair (Cranston, R.I.) came off the bench to score ten points for the Brewers.

Senior forward Keisha Toms (Seattle, Wash.) led the Lady Cougars (0-1) with 15 points and ten rebounds.

With the win, Vassar advances to take on McDaniel College in the championship game at 3:00 tomorrow. Medgar Evers will play William Paterson in the consolation match at 1:00.
