CLARKSON SWEEPS VASSAR BASKETBALL TEAMS
Golden Knight men win 63-59, women win 60-53

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ­ Junior guard Josh Harner (Houston, Texas) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Clarkson University to a 63-59 victory over Vassar College in a Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association menıs basketball game Friday night at the Athletic & Fitness Center.

 

Sophomore forward Matt Parker (Highland, N.Y.) grabbed 13 of his game-high 16 rebounds in the first half for Vassar (5-13, 0-8 UCAA), as the Brewers built a 29-28 halftime lead.

 

The lead switched hands several times early on in the second half, until with 8:18 remaining in the game, a John Adamchick (Clifton Park, N.Y.) basket put the Golden Knights ahead for good at 43-41.

 

Sophomore guard Seth Taft (Philadelphia, Penn.) and senior guard Matt Chittim (Barrington, R.I.) hit three-point baskets during the final 12 seconds of the game to pull Vassar within four.

 

Sophomore guard Jud Winton (San Francisco, Calif.) led Vassar with 15 points. He also added seven rebounds and five assists. Taft chipped in 13 points.

 

Senior forward Steve Godlewski (Rotterdam, N.Y.) scored 11 points for Clarkson (8-11, 3-5 UCAA). Sophomore guard Matt Decker (Whitney Point, N.Y.) added ten points and five rebounds.

 

In the womenıs game, senior forward Linda Bondellio (Watertown, N.Y.) scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Clarkson (10-8, 3-5 UCAA) to a 60-53 victory over Vassar.

 

Clinging to a 51-50 lead with just over three minutes to play, the Golden Knights

used clutch rebounding and tough defense to end the game on a 9-3 run, securing the

victory.

 

Vassar (4-14, 1-7 UCAA) was led by senior forward Carleen Aubee (Chepachet, R.I.) with 15 points. Aubee now needs just seven points to pass Lisa Ercolano ı02 for third place on Vassarıs career scoring list.

 

Senior forward Lauren Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) added ten points, while sophomore guard Stacey Tiamfook (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in nine points, six rebounds, and six assists.

 

Junior guard Bridget Sweeney (Corning, N.Y.) had 14 points and six rebounds for the Golden Knights. Senior forward Jen Martin (Guildhall, Vt.) added 13 points.
