SAINT LAWRENCE TAKES TWO GAMES FROM VASSAR
Saints women break away in the second half, 78-37, men win 86-76

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ­ Senior guard Katie Griffith (Levittown, N.Y.) scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half to lead Saint Lawrence University to a 78-37 victory over Vassar College in a Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association womenıs basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Athletic & Fitness Center.

 

Vassar (4-15, 1-8 UCAA) led for most of the first half, and trailed 29-25 at the break. After a Christine Wegner (Bristol, Conn.) lay-up to start the second half, the Saints (18-2, 9-0) went on a 25-0 run to build a 54-27 lead.

 

Senior forward Carleen Aubee (Chepachet, R.I.) moved past Lisa Ercolano ı02 for third place on Vassarıs career scoring list with 1252 points. She led the Brewers with 14 points. Wegner added ten points.

 

Freshman guard Kate Vlahakis (Lebanon, N.H.) chipped in ten points and six rebounds for the Saints, who out-rebounded Vassar 50-25.

 

In the menıs game, sophomore forward Aaron Marshall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Saint Lawrence past Vassar, 86-76.

 

A balanced scoring attack staked the Brewers (5-14, 0-9 UCAA) to 34-30 halftime lead.  However, the Saints strong inside play took as the game wore.  The Saints outscored Vassar 28-16 in the paint during a second-half surge that put the game away.

 

Five Brewers finished the game in double figures, led by senior guard Brian Snodgrass (Holmdel, N. J.) who had 18 points and six rebounds. Also chipping in were: sophomore guard Jud Winton (San Francisco Calif.) 15 points, five rebounds, sophomore guard Seth Taft (Philadelphia, Penn.) 15 points, sophomore forward Matt Parker (Highland, N.Y.) 11 points, seven rebounds, and junior forward Dan Trigub (Livingston, N.J.) 11 points, ten rebounds.

 

Sophomore guard Jimmy White (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and grabbed nine rebounds for Saint Lawrence (12-7, 5-4 UCAA).

 

The Vassar men host SUNY-New Paltz Tuesday at 7 p.m.
