POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ‚ Tournament most valuable player Jen Piccolomini
(Shepherdstown, W.V.) scored 13 points to lead McDaniel College to
a 66-57 women's basketball victory over Vassar College in the championship
game of the Vassar Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Athletic
& Fitness Center.
The Green Terror (2-0) took a commanding lead midway
through the second half, when they went on a 14-0 run to increase
their lead to 59-44 with seven minutes remaining. McDanielís scoring
off the bench was the difference in the game as the Terror got 27
points from six non-starters.
Senior forward Carleen Aubee (Chepachet, R.I.) scored 12 points and
collected six rebounds for the Brewers (1-1), while senior forward
Lauren Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) added 10 points.
In the consolation game, senior forward Jeanine Day (Green Brook,
N.J.) scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead William
Paterson University to a 72-24 victory over Medgar Evers College.
Senior guard Katie Morris (Deptford, N.J.) led a defensive effort
that limited the Lady Cougars to just two first-half baskets and a
35-7 lead at the break. Morris collected 10 steals in the game to
go along with six points. Sophomore forward Adrienne Kopko (Franklinville,
N..J.) added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Pioneers (1-1).
Freshman forward Thelma Herbert (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Medgar Evers
(0-2) with eight points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Keisha Toms
(Seattle, Wash.) added seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
