Molfino, Williams lead late Ducks attack

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ­ Senior forward Vanessa Williams (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and senior guard Mia Molfino (Ellicott City, Md.) combined for 23 points in the second half to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 49-48 victory over Vassar College in a non-conference womenıs basketball game Tuesday evening at the Athletic & Fitness Center.

 

Senior forward Carleen Aubee (Chepachet, R.I.) scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to stake the Brewers to a 25-14 lead at the break. Aubee has 1055 points for her career, two shy of sole possession of fourth place on Vassarıs all-time list.

 

Vassar (1-3) forced 27 missed shots and limited the Ducks to just 21% shooting in the first half.

 

Stevens Tech. (1-4) rallied in the second period, as Molfino scored all 11 of her points down the stretch. Williams sealed the game late, scoring six straight points to boost the teamıs lead to 47-39 with a minute and a half remaining. Williams picked up 12 of her 14 points in the frame and combined with Molfino to net 10 of 11 free throw attempts.

 

Freshman guard Natalie Serkowski (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) added seven points and four steals for the Brewers. Aubee collected a game-high nine rebounds.

 

Freshman forward Emily Weaver (Prince Frederick, Md.) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds for Stevens Tech.

 

Vassar plays Haverford College at 5 p.m. on Friday in the first round of the Seven Sisters Tournament at Wellesley College.
