DREW DOWNS VASSAR 5-2 IN FIELD HOCKEY
Fetter scores twice, Scarpa adds a goal and an assist as Rangers win

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Senior attacker Kara Fetter (Sewell, N.J.) scored two goals to lead Drew University to a 5-2 non-conference field hockey victory over Drew University Monday afternoon at Prentiss Field.

 

Senior defender Maureen Kenealy (Wellesley, Mass.) gave Vassar a quick 1-0 lead ten minutes in. Drew took a 2-1 lead when senior midfielder Kristen Scarpa (Monroe, N.J.) and Fetter scored 25 seconds apart midway through the period.

 

Drew's Colleen Mahon (Shavertown, Penn.) made it 3-1 just three minutes into the second frame. Senior midfielder Ellen Ridyard (Jenkintown, Penn.) brought the Brewers within one nine minutes later, before Alyssa Bobe (Greenfield, Mass.) and Fetter tacked on goals late for the 5-2 final.

 

Sophomore Casey O'Brien (Oakhurst, N.J.) was spectacular in net turning back 13 Vassar shots. Senior Tara Trifon (Coronado, Calif.) and junior Sharla Alegria (No. Dighton, Mass.) combined to make six saves for Vassar (3-8). Drew improved to 7-2 on the year.

 

Vassar resumes conference play Friday afternoon at William Smith College. Gametime is 4 p.m.
