VASSAR DEFEATS RPI 3-2

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Freshman forward Katherine Ross (Williamsburg, Va.) scored two goals to lead Vassar College to a 3-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday afternoon in a UCAA field hockey game at Prentiss Field.

Freshman forward Laurie Young (Camden, N.Y.) gave the Engineers a quick lead with an unassisted goal 8:48 into the game. Senior forward Beth Pierson (Cohasset, Mass.) tied the game up with a goal at 27 minutes.

Ross took over the game 12 minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal, before Pierson found Ross for another score four minutes later to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead.

Freshman forward Colleen Bonner (Hudson, Mass.) added a late goal for RPI.

Junior Tara Trifon (Coronado, Calif.) made ten saves for the Brewers (7-9, 3-4 UCAA). Senior Cathy Hotchkiss (White Plains, N.Y.) had seven stops for RPI (10-5, 4-3 UCAA).
