VASSAR FALLS TO UNION 24-6 IN MEN'S LACROSSE
Gross, Murphy lead Dutchmen to first conference win

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Sophomore attacker Pete Gross (Larchmont, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Matt Murphy (Armonk, N.Y.) each scored five goals and assisted on five others to lead Union College to a 24-6 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association men's lacrosse victory over Vassar College Monday afternoon at Prentiss Field.

 

Sophomore midfielder Mike Sparico (Riverside, Conn.) scored two of his game-high six goals to give Union (2-9, 1-3 UCAA) a 6-1 advantage after one period of play. Murphy tallied two goals and two assists in the second frame as the Dutchmen led 13-1 at the half.

 

Freshman attacker Zach Winkler (W. Islip, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Justin Schrager (Santa Maria, Calif.) led Vassar (2-6, 0-4 UCAA) with two goals apiece.

 

Freshman Will Noll (Baltimore, Md.) made 17 saves for Vassar, while sophomore Will Tamm (Milbrook, N.Y.) stopped ten shots for Union.

 

Vassar will host SUNY Maritime at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
