Cherry scores six goals to pace Saints

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Carolyn Cherry (Pittsburgh, Penn.) scored all six of her goals in the first half to lead Saint Lawrence University to a 14-10 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Prentiss Field.

 

The Saints (10-3, 4-2 UCAA) built an early 10-0 lead and led 11-2 at the half. Vassar (4-8, 0-5 UCAA) made a run in the second half as sophomore Emilie Moeckel (Hockessin, Del.) scored two goals after tallies from junior Sarah Margolis-Pineo (Portland, Maine) and freshman Abigail Baird (Gloucester, Mass.) made it 11-6.

 

Junior Jenny Heffler (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored four goals and added three assists for the Saints. Junior Kelsey Hochstatter (E. Amherst, N.Y.) chipped in two goals.

 

Moeckel, Baird, and freshman Jessica Johnson (Denver, Colo.) led the Brewers with two goals each. Sophomore Sarah McKenna (Evanston, Ill.) made nine saves for Vassar, while junior Desiree McKoan (Waccabuc, N.Y.) and sophomore Maggie Doutre (Avon, Conn.) combined to make 13 saves for the Saints.
