Head Coach Rodney Mott
Rodney Mott, who has served as the head men's and women's rowing coach in Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, begins his second year as head coach of Vassar's men's and women's rowing programs.
Mott brings impressive credentials to Vassar, having spent more than 18 years in rowing at Willamette (1996-2005), head coach at University of Puget Sound (1989-1996), head women's coach at North Idaho College (1989) and an assistant women's coach at Washington State University (1988-89).
"We're extremely happy to have someone of Rodney's experience as our new men's and women's rowing coach," said Beverly. "With his comprehensive background in the sport, we are confident our rowing programs will flourish in the future."
Mott, who was chosen as the Women's Coach of the Year in the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference in 2002, built the Bearcat crews into formidable opponents. Among his many accomplishments were:
- Women's Varsity 4 Light conference champion (2005)
- Women's Team Overall Champions West Region Division III 1st & 2nd Varsity 8's (2002)
- Women's Varsity 8 1st place, West Region Division III (2001)
- Women's Varsity 4 West Coast champion (2000)
- Northwest Conference of Rowing Colleges overall women's team champion (2000)
- Men's Varsity 8 conference champions (1998)
- Women's Varsity 8 conference champions (1999, 2000, 2001)
At the University of Puget Sound, Mott led the men's Varsity 8 a 2 nd place finish at the 1996 Pacific Coast Rowing Championships and a 5 th place finish for the men's Varsity 8 in the Grand Finals of the 1996 Pacific Coast Rowing Championships. In the early 1990s, both his women's and men's Varsity light 4 boats won the PCRC/Pacific 10 Conference races.
"I am proud and honored to be taking over the men's and women's rowing programs at Vassar College," said Mott. "Vassar as an institution has a rich and vibrant tradition. I am exited to be a part of that tradition. I am eager to develop strong Vassar crews to represent the College both regionally and on the national rowing scene."
Mott, a member of the Collegiate Rowing Association, earned a Level III Coaching Certification from U.S. Rowing.
A 1988 graduate of Washington State University with a BA in American Studies, Mott was a two-time member of Washington State's Pac-10 Champion boats.
Assistant Coach Brie Farley
Brie Farley begins her first year as Vassar's assistant rowing coach. Farley brings extensive coaching experience to the rowing program, which includes a US Rowing Level III coaching certificate. The Old Lyme, CT native served as the women's varsity coxswain for her alma mater and seven sisters rival, Bryn Mawr College, serving as the co-captain during her final season.
In addition to a stellar collegiate rowing career, Farley also served as an assistant coach at Wesleyan University from 2004-2005, where she led the novice team to a first and second place finish at the 2005 Novice Invitational. For the last two years, Farley has been both a director and coach of the Greenwich Rowing Club, where she oversaw all aspects of the program that included more than 100 athletes.
Farley also brings her experience as a coach at the prestigious Craftsbury Sculling Center in Northern Vermont. Craftsbury has long been an elite training center for novice athletes, as well as World Class and Olympic caliber competitors. Farley graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 2003, with a degree in Cultural Anthropology.
