Vassar College Women 33 v Dartmouth College Women 5
Tries: Kristen Naito [1], Larkin Sealy [2], and Valerie Griffeth [2] .
Cons: Valerie Griffeth [4].

On a beautiful fall afternoon with bright sunshine and temperatures in the high 60's , the Vassar College Women's Rugby team overcame early jitters and defeated the defending northeast champions, Dartmouth, 33 points to 5.

However, Dartmouth dominated possession and field position, and twice went over the Vassar line but were held up and no tries were awarded! Vassar opened their scoring when Julie Half took a quick penalty after a series of rucks and Kristen Naito dived in for the try. This was at the ten minute mark and it was Vassar's first sortie into the Dartmouth half. Then Larkin Sealy received a pass just inside the Vassar 22, the speedy wing ran 75 yards and scored under the posts. Vassar led 14 - 0 as Val Griffeth converted both tries. The remainder of the half was spent at Vassar's end as Dartmouth attempted to get back on level terms. They were rewarded with a try on the right side after some poor tackling from Vassar just on the stroke of half time.

The second half was a different affair as the Vassar players realized that they were the better team. Senior Vanessa Chang had a marvelous game and five minutes into the second half she took a ball against the head, Vassar attacked weak and the ball went from 9 to 15 to 11 and Sealy went in and intelligently ran around under the posts. At 21-5, the game was now out of reach for Dartmouth. Two further tries from fullback Val Griffeth sealed the win for Vassar. The first was a beauty as the fast paced fullback gathered the ball from Julia Rosen as the backs ran a play involving a long miss pass that didn't quite find it's mark. The final try was even better and involved a host of players. The forwards ran 4 phases to the left and then with the Dartmouth defence drawn across the ball went right to the backs and Griffeth put the nail in the coffin.
