Vassar College Women 50 v 0 University College Northampton
Tries:Dana Wasserman (3), Val Griffeth (2), Julie Half (1), Kirsten
Naito (1),
Amy Rubin (1).
Cons: Val Griffeth (5).
Just three starters in the Vassar forwards was cause for concern prior
to the game but after just 10 minutes of play those fears were emphatically
laid to rest. Lydia Durand had an outstanding game impersonating Killian
Dykes to perfection, pulling down countless lineout throws and the
Vassar forwards drove relentlessly down the field. Jesse Werner also
on the flank had an excellent game and after a scrappy first 5 minutes
it was Vassar's Valerie Griffeth who opened the scoring and the Brewers
led 5-0.
UCN were the perfect first tour game as the Vassar players had not
been outside since November 11th 2003. Julie Half took control and
ample ball was provided for the backs. The senior co-captain scored
the second try and then put Dana Wasserman over for the first of her
3 scores and the Brewers led 22-0 at the half.
At the start of the second half Kirsten Naito took a short pass from
a ruck and proceeded to scamper a full 40 yards shrugging tacklers
off and the Vassar account was reopened in the second half. Although
the Vassar defence was rarely tested there were occasions when UCN
put runners away but those attacks were quickly snuffed out. A final
try from number 8 Amy Rubin was just reward for a dynamic first game
at number 8. Next up is a Friday night game at Coalville, Leicestershire
kick off 7pm.
