Vassar College Women XV 15 v Marist College Women "A" 0
Tries: Darcy Nelson (2) & Emerald Garvey (1).
It will probably go down in Vassar Women's Rugby history as the win
of the famous fourteen! Somehow in the shuffle, amidst the to-ing
and fro-ing, from New Paltz to Marist only 14 players made the Marist
game in time for the kickoff. Sarah Turbett about had a kitten and
made numerous cell phone calls to coach Brown but it was to no avail.
The fourteen would have to face the Marist fifteen come kickoff. Coach
Griffiths put it all in perspective when he said, "They won't
even notice once the game gets going."
Sure enough it was 2 tries to nil at the half and by then Amy Rubin
had shown up and Turbo was a smidgeon calmer! Another try in the second
half under the lights at Marist on their football field and the game
was safe. The women could now claim the unofficial title of Mid-Hudson
Valley Rugby Champions 2002!

Vassar College Women XV 10 v Marist College Women "B" 0
Tries: Julie Half (1) & Vanessa Morris (1).
This game saw Julie "the fly" Half help out the rookies
and the backline purred like a well tuned Rolls-Royce. It was great
to see Emily Purdy smoothly moving the ball down the line and wingers
hitting their stride. The forwards rucked well and produced a monopoly
of the ball and Kirsten Naito led from the front constantly charging
off the fringes. Another win and the women wre undefeated on the day!
