Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Constitution


Article 1: Committee Membership

SAAC will be composed of two varsity athletes from each sports team, one athlete nominated by their teammates and the other, following the team nomination, by their coach.   All student athletes who participate on Varsity teams and rugby are eligible for participation in SAAC elections and activities.   Both members will attend all SAAC meetings.

Section 1: Elections

Members shall be elected for a term of two years, after which they may be re-elected.   Nominations for candidates will be solicited when deemed necessary by SAAC, but usually the end of the academic year.   Elections are the responsibility of each teams Current SAAC member.   Selected candidates will be given the opportunity to accept their nomination.   New members will be announced and will immediately begin attending meetings with the current SAAC.   Committee member who take a legitimate lave from the College, (JYA, etc.) will not forfeit their position on the committee as long as the leave does not last longer than twelve month.

Section 2. Nominations

Each respective coach will have the option to nominate one additional player from their team after the elections are finalized.

Article 2: Officers

Elections of all officers will be conducted during a SAAC meeting prior to Spring Break.   Officers are responsible for creating a year mission statement at the commencement of the academic year.

Section 1: President

Candidates for President must have served on SAAC for at least on year previous.   The president shall preside at all SAAC meetings with a present agenda.   The president will also serve as the Conference SAAC representative.

Section 2: Vice President

The VP shall assume the duties of the President during any temporary or permanent disability of the President.   The VP shall supervise and oversee the organization and publicity of the events and activities of SAAC.

Section 3. Secretary

The secretary shall be responsible for taking minutes at SAAC meeting and distributing a copy to all SAAC members, the office of athletics, and placing a copy on the SAAC website.   The secretary shall keep a record of attendance at each SAAC meeting.

Article 3: Removal from office

If any officer or committee member does not fulfill his/her duties as stated in the SAAC Constitution, he/she has to be removed by a 2/3 vote by council members.   Failure to attend two meetings without a valid excuse shall be just cause for dismissal.   The coach shall appoint at mew member immediately.

Article 4: Non-voting members

Any member of the Vassar College community shall be permitted to attend SAAC meetings and provide input into all discussions. These members are not permitted to vote.

Article 5:

SAAC meetings shall be held bi-weekly.   The officers reserve he right to call additional meeting when deemed necessary.   SAAC and the office of athletics shall set up a calendar of events and meeting at the beginning of each semester.   All motions mat at SAAC meeting shall be decided by a majority vote of all voting members present.  

All SAAC meeting and events shall be posted on the designated SAAC notice board in the athletic facilitates and in the office of athletics notice board in the college center, on a bi-weekly basis by officers.

Article 6: Amendment Procedure

A permanent copy of the SAAC Constitution shall remain in the office of Athletics and available on the SAAC website. Amendments to this Constitution may be instated at the review of proceedings with a quorum of 2/3 of the voting assemble. Amendment may be passed by a 2/3 majority of the quorum. The Constitution shall be ratified at the beginning of each academic year and subject to review and ratification when deem necessary by member of SAAC.   An open amendment meeting shall take place prior to the review proceeding and copies of the proposed amendments shall be made available to the SAAC members at least on week prior to the review process.
