Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

September 9, 2007

Minutes of First Meeting

Introductions
•  Of Current and New Members
•  Quick recap of SAAC for New Members

Recap of Exec Board Meeting from September 2, 2007

Meeting Times
•  Sunday versus Monday
•  Should we alternate days to accommodate members with conflicts?
•  i.e. one week have the meeting on Monday and the next week have it on Sunday
•  Aim to have meeting every other week

Kid's Night
•  October 26, 2007
•  Will be held in the field house
•  Will need a number of volunteers
•  Bays already reserved
•  Insurance liability different from last year, need to get the information out to the schools by early October so that parents can fill out the forms prior to dropping off their children
•  Need to know numbers early on

Game Plan for 2007-2008
•  Super Bowl Party in UpCDc
•  Will most likely combine with SAMs on this one
•  Need to start the planning on this soon
•  Will need LOTS of food, as well as access to the big screen there
•  Collecting points will be the main funding
•  Need to reserve the room
•  Perhaps we should look into hiring a Security Guard, to make sure that no one brings alcohol into the event
•  Brian Sciubba will look into renting ACDC
•  Chelsea Katzenberg will contact Maureen King to ask about food and costs
•  Subs at Sports Games in the Spring
•  Has a greater potential for this year since all of the sports fields will be close by

Paired Teams
•  Teams should be in different seasons
•  "Athletes Supporting Athletes"
•  Exec Board will redo the pairings and bring to the next meeting

Varsity Weight Room
•  Not all teams have been through their orientation yet
•  Room not open yet
•  As of now, when the room opens only teams will be required to go in as a team supervised by a coach - meaning only in-season athletes will be able to use it
•  TBD if athletes will be able to use the room individually, as some of the lifts are dangerous
•  Jeff Carter and Jon Martin currently overseeing the room
•  Athletes must change their shoes
•  Teams will have to sign out the room if they wish to use it
•  The room will be evaluated by the school before entering into phase 2 and 3
•  Out of Season teams can have the orientation at any point
•  The room is NOT to be used as a cardio room

Collecting Toiletries at Away Games
•  Initiative by Tina Castellan
•  The toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotions, etc, will be split between Hunger Action and the Battered Women's Shelter
•  A generic e-mail will be sent by Tina before away games to remind teams
•  There will be a drop box at the front desk in the lobby of the AFC, as well as in the training room at Walker
•  Do NOT steal pillows or towels or anything like that, simply take the free toiletries that come with the room

Athlete Concerns
•  Out of Season teams getting the shaft in terms of Bay Times
•  Intramural teams are very important to the institution, and for this year varsity teams are going to have to make do
•  It is a good idea to schedule practices way in advance
•  Once an event is booked, it is set in stone
•  Athletes should also be patient with the training room, as Jeff is in the midst of interviewing potential new trainers
•  Try to get to the training room 15-20 minutes earlier than you previously would have
•  Jeff working on getting a physical therapist on board, similar to the way that Vassar has Dr. Thompson coming once a week
•  Be patient with new trainers, as they do not know your old injuries the way that the old trainers did

New protocol on Warm-Up and Uniform Colors
•  If something says Vassar on it, it needs to be Burgundy and Grey, unless cleared with Sharon Beverly first
•  Most things are up for discussion, however a sample of both the material and color need to be provided
•  Nothing in black is up for discussion

Next Meeting - Sunday, September 23 rd at 8:00
