VASSAR CROWNS KINGS 2-1
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Senior forward Chris Schreiber (Newton, Mass.) scored two goals early in the first half to lead Vassar College to a 2-1 victory over King's College in the first round of the Mid-Hudson Classic men's soccer tournament Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Joseph Petruccelli (Flushing, N.Y.) found Schreiber at 10:23 in front of the net for the goal and a 1-0 Vassar lead. Schreiber scored his second goal just seven minutes later on a breakaway, set up by a pass from senior midfielder Joe Nazzaro (Dracut, Mass.)

Greg Castellani cut the Brewer lead to 2-1, but King's struggled to find the equalizer.

Junior Paul Connors (No. Andover, Mass.) made eight saves for Vassar, who won in James Franklin's head coaching debut. Mark Ferentz made five stops for the Monarchs.

Vassar takes on Rhode Island College, Sunday afternoon in the Mid-Hudson Classic at 2:00.
