GREEN-SPECTOR NETS THREE IN VASSAR SOCCER DEBUT
Brewers win men's soccer opener 5-1 over Medgar Evers

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Freshman forward Avery Green-Spector (Upper Montclair, N.J.) scored three goals and assisted on a fourth to lead Vassar College to a 5-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Medgar Evers College Wednesday afternoon at Prentiss Field.

Green-Spector scored first-half goals in his first collegiate game to give Vassar (1-0) a quick 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Hugh Chin scored the lone goal for Medgar Evers (1-2) with just over ten minutes left in the half.

 

Green-Spector tallied a third goal less than two minutes into the second half to give the Brewers a commanding 3-1 advantage. VC made it 4-1 when Green-Spector set up a goal by sophomore defender Michael Kennett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Junior forward Aldis Butler (Larkspur, Calif.) added a goal for the 5-1 final.

 

Sophomore Ancil Steepe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made 12 saves, including two penalty kicks for the Cougars, who were outshot 37-7 for the game.

 

Vassar plays at USMMA-Kings Point Saturday afternoon at 12:30.
