NEW PALTZ SHUTS DOWN VASSAR 3-0

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Matt Daum (New Paltz, N.Y.) scored two goals as SUNY-New Paltz defeated Vassar College 3-0 in a non-conference men's soccer game at Prentiss Field Wednesday afternoon.

Daum got the Hawks on the board when he volleyed a shot past junior goalkeeper Alex Parra (Flushing, N.Y.) for the goal at 4:15. Daum struck again at the 17 minute mark when he beat Parra again with a shot 20 yards out. Junior forward Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, N.Y.) made it 3-0 with a goal 16 minutes later.

Parra made one save for Vassar (10-6 overall). Senior Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) recorded the shutout for the Hawks (5-12-1), making five stops.

Vassar plays their last UCAA game on Saturday, November 2nd at home against RPI at 1:00 pm. If the Brewers win they will be the third-seed in the UCAA postseason tournament.
