BUTLER SCORES TWO AS VASSAR STUNS #24 KINGS POINT
Men's soccer upsets third nationally-ranked team in two seasons

 

KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- Junior forward Aldis Butler (Larkspur, Calif.) scored two goals in the first half to lead Vassar College to a stunning 2-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over 24th-ranked United States Merchant Marine Academy Saturday afternoon.

Butler got Vassar (2-0) on the scoreboard at 32:05 when he headed a long cross from senior midfielder Owen Kendall (Pullman, Wash.) past Kings Point keeper James Papazis.  Six minutes later, Butler headed another cross from freshman forward Avery Green-Spector (Upper Montclair, N.J.) for the 2-0 lead.

 

Senior Paul Connors (No. Andover, Mass.) made three saves as the Brewers knocked off their third nationally-ranked opponent in the last two seasons.

 

Papazis made five saves for Kings Point (4-2)

 

Vassar resumes non-conference play Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 against Mount Saint Mary.
