One of the oldest intercollegiate sports at Vassar, having begun intercollegiate play in the 1972 season, men's soccer has enjoyed tremendous success, with participation in nine post season championships to the programs credit. The program is steadily on the rise and will be enhanced by a $7.6 million refurbishing of Prentiss Field. The facility will include a state-of-the-art soccer field along with two grass practice fields, a lighted artificial turf primarily used for field hockey and lacrosse and a new grass baseball field.

Vassar has made made seven appearances in the prestigious ECAC championships, winning titles in 1990 and in 1994. In 1999, the team became the first Vassar men's team to appear in a NCAA Championship game. That year, the Brewers defeated Cabrini College at Prentiss Field before falling to Final Four participant Richard Stockton.

Historically, Vassar won three Suburban Soccer Conference titles before moving to the highly competitive Liberty League in the 2000 season. The Brewers qualified for the Liberty League (then known as the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Assocation) post-season tournament in 2002. In the 2006 campaign, the Brewers were in the thick of earning one of four coveted Liberty League playoff spots until the final weekend of the season.

Besides playing a strong Liberty League schedule, featuring an array of teams -- Hobart, Hamilton, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Union, Skidmore, RPI -- who are widely considered among the best in the country, Vassar regularly competes against regional powers including Stevens Institute of Technology, Swarthmore College and New Jersey City University, to name just a few.

An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes. Conferences and associations routinely include Brewer athletes in both academic all-conference as well as all-conference lists.

The team has a fully-funded foreign tour every three years. Most recently, the team went to Athens, Greece on a trip hosted by Panathaikos and culuminated with a game against Panathaikos XI.
