Head Coach Richard Moller

Richard Moller, who had served as the first assistant women's soccer coach at Dartmouth College and previously was the head women's soccer coach at Western Illinois for two seasons, became Vassar's head women's soccer coach at the start of the 2006 season and led the Brewers to an appearance in the prestigious ECAC post season Tournament. Moller coached at Western Illinois in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In his first season with the Westerwinds, he guided the women's soccer team to its first Mid-Continent Conference tournament appearance since 2000. Western finished fourth in the Mid-Con after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason coach's poll. Before joining Western Illinois, Moller was as an assistant coach for two years at Smith College while completing a teaching fellowship in Applied Exercise Science and earning his master's degree in Exercise and Sports Studies in 2003.

Prior to Smith College, Moller was an assistant coach at Villa Julie College in Maryland from 1999-2001, where he helped the team reach the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Division III national championship.

As a player, Moller had an exceptional career at Towson University, becoming the first Towson soccer player to earn Division I All-America honors. He was the America East Player of the Year in 1998 and was named one of the top three Division I goal scorers in the nation by Soccer America. He earned his bachelor's degree in modern languages in 1999 and was an academic honor roll and dean's list student.

Moller continued playing into the professional ranks and was the number one draft pick of the Maryland Mania, an A-League team associated with the D.C. United, and the number one draft pick of the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).

Moller, who grew up in Germany, was a starting member of the German youth national team for four years. While playing for I.F.C. Kaiserslautern, his team won the German youth championship. He holds UEFA B and UEFA C coaching licenses, both obtained in Germany.

Assistant Coach Ashleigh Carter

Ashleigh Carter, a 2007 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, begins her first season as an assistant women's soccer coach at Vassar College. Carter, a four year member and starter on the UNC Asheville women's soccer team, captained the Bulldogs her final season.

While playing at UNC Asheville, Carter was part of two Big South regular season championship teams in 2004 and 2005 and led the Bulldogs to a Big South Tournament championship her senior year. The tournament victory garnered the school's first ever NCAA women's soccer birth.

Carter's collegiate accolades includes are many, and include a Big South Player of the Week award, First Team All Conference honors (2006), Big South Conference Tournament MVP (2006), and also was named the team MVP during as a senior.

The Aurora, CO native had previously coached for two summers with the UNC Asheville soccer camp, where she helped design workouts, perform demonstrations and evaluate player skill development. While at Asheville, Carter played for coach Michelle Cornish, a 1985 US National Team member who has been named Big South Coach of the year in 1995 and 2005.

Carter, a Mathematics Dean's List graduate at UNC Asheville, completed her degree in May 2007.

Prospective Student-Athletes

The coaching staff for the Women’s Soccer program travel extensively in search of the very best prospective student-athletes. Premier tournaments such as college showcases, regional tournaments, and league championships are where we spend most of our time evaluating players for the program. Because Vassar is one of the best Liberal Arts Colleges in the country many of the players we actively recruit are accomplished academics as well as superb athletes. Typically candidates for our program will have scored around 1280 on the SAT, taken honors/advanced placement courses, been active in their community, and maintained an excellent grade point average. In addition they will have achieved success with their club or high school program and enjoyed ODP, Super-Y, MAPS, or National League experience.
