POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. Junior midfielder Heather Zaimes (La Canada, Calif.)
scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Vassar College to a 4-0 shutout
victory over Manhattanville College in the first round of the Mid-Hudson Classic
womens soccer tournament Saturday afternoon.
Junior forward Lindsey Pilver (Manchester, Conn.) got the Brewers on the board
when she collected a rebound off a shot on Valiant goalie Liz McNamee (W. Hartford,
Conn.) and beat the keeper for the score.
The Brewers tallied three goals in the second half to put the game away, beginning
with Zaimes goal off of a cross from senior forward Courtney Mersereau (Portland,
Ore.). Sophomore forward Sarah Combs (Anchorage, Alaska) made it 3-0 when she
beat McNamee after picking the ball off of a Valiant defender.
Junior midfielder Elizabeth Keehner (Rocky Hill, Conn.) scored the final Brewer
goal on a penalty kick.
Freshman Heather Jaffe (Belle Mead, N.J.) made nine saves in the win. McNamee
finished with 11.
Vassar takes on Elmira College, Sunday afternoon in the Mid-Hudson Classic at
SUNY-New Paltz at 12:00.
