ST. LAWRENCE DEFEATS VASSAR 3-0
Saints get goals from Skinner, Bealer, Masterson,
clinch final playoff spot
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.
-- Saint Lawrence University clinched the fourth and
final Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association playoff spot in a 3-0 women's
soccer victory over Vassar College Saturday afternoon at Prentiss Field.
Sophomore forward Sarah Skinner (Boxford, Mass.)
scored the first Saint goal when she scored off of a cross from sophomore
midfielder Devon Cain (So. Hero, Vt.) at 14:07. Freshman midfielder Samantha
Bealer (Darien, Conn.) made it 2-0 with less than five minutes in the half,
when she broke in all alone on sophomore goalkeeper Alice England (Salt Lake
City, Utah) for the goal. Junior midfielder Liz Masterson (Steamboat Springs,
Colo.) put the game away four minutes into the second half when she picked up a
loose ball inside the Vassar box and scored into a vacated net.
Freshman Carly Draper (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded the
shutout with three saves for St. Lawrence (10-4-1, 4-2-1 UCAA). England made
one save in the first half for Vassar (3-12, 1-6 UCAA). Sophomore Heather Jaffe
(Belle Meade, N.J.) stopped five shots in the second.
St. Lawrence draws top-seeded Union College in the
first round of the UCAA Championship. They close out their regular season at
Oswego State on November 1st. Vassar finishes the season tied for
sixth place in the UCAA. They will host Russell Sage College October 30th.
