Hawks win first game of the year in women's soccer

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Freshman forward Allison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored late in regulation to lead SUNY New Paltz to a 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Vassar College Wednesday afternoon at Prentiss Field.


The win breaks an eight game losing streak against the Brewers. Vassar (0-2) managed just one shot on goal and was outshot 9-8 for the game.

 

Freshman Lisa Strumwasser (Malibu, Calif.) made her collegiate debut in net for Vassar, making three saves. Junior Maggie Fenton (E. Meadow, N.Y.) recorded the shutout with one save for New Paltz (1-2-1).

 

Vassar resumes non-conference play Saturday afternoon at 2:00 against New York University at Prentiss.
