WILLIAM SMITH DEFEATS VASSAR 5-0 IN WOMEN'S SOCCER
Leveille tallies two goals late to seal UCAA victory

 

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Senior midfielder Stephanie Leveille (Ossining, N.Y.) led a late offensive surge with a pair of second-half goals to lead William Smith College to a 5-0 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer victory over Vassar College Saturday afternoon at Prentiss Field.

 

William Smith (5-2-1, 2-0 UCAA) led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal by senior forward Kristen Perrigo (Liverpool, N.Y.). Junior forward Caroline Wenzel (Geneva, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal 1:20 into the second half for the 2-0 lead. The Herons protected the two-goal advantage before exploding for three goals in the last 15 minutes. Freshman midfielder Alexandra Rieben (Guilford, Conn.) scored a goal before Leveille scored twice for the 5-0 final.

 

The Herons outshot Vassar 17-7. Freshmen Nikki Dudley (Conastota, N.Y.) and Liz Orofino (Mill Valley, Calif.) recorded the shutout with one save. Freshman Lisa Strumwasser (Malibu, Calif.) and sophomore Heather Jaffe (Belle Mead, N.J.)) combined to make two saves for Vassar (0-6, 0-2 UCAA).

 

Vassar resumes conference play Friday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Gametime is 7 p.m.
