Athletic Trainers

Jeffrey Carter

Jeffrey Carter assumed the duties of head athletic trainer in August of 2002. Prior to his arrival at Vassar, Carter served as the head athletic trainer and director of wellness and fitness at Bard College for two years.

At Bard, Carter was responsible for coverage of all Division III varsity sports, as well as, the daily management of the athletic training program. In addition to his sports medicine duties, Carter was the campus-wide director of wellness and the director of the fitness center.

A 1997 graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland, Carter graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in physical education, a minor in athletic training and a concentration in coaching. He received his master of science degree in education with an athletic training emphasis from Old Dominion University in May of 2000.

A native of Warsaw, N.Y., Carter is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association and the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association. He is also a certified strength and conditioning coach (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, an American Red Cross instructor and an approved clinical instructor (ACI) for athletic training students. In addition, Carter is the head athletic trainer for the Lake Placid Soccer Centre during the summer months. He currently resides in Poughkeepsie.

Josh Chason

Joining the Vassar College Athletic Training staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in October 2007 is Josh Chason. Chason joins Vassar after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer and Fitness and Wellness Director at Bard College.

Chason's responsibilities at Bard included the healthcare/record keeping of NCAA Division III athletes participating in various seasonal sports. Chason was a member of the Bard College Emergency Medical Services Council, an instructor in first aid and CPR for coaching staff, students, faculty, and the community. Additionally, Chason participated as the Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for a CAAHEP accredited Athletic Training Education Program and acted as the Summer Camp Health Director.

Prior to his time at Bard, Chason worked as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Marist College from 2004-2005. Chason has also gained experience in a variety of different locations: the Center for Physical Therapy in Wappingers Fall, NY; the Army National Guard; the Empire State Games; and East Stroudsburg University.

Chason graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 2003 with a B.S. in Athletic Training and currently holds certifications as a New York State Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.

Chason is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Jessica Lustbader

Jessica Lustbader joined Vassar College as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in September 2007. Lustbader is no stranger to Vassar, after serving as an Athletic Training Student from 2004-2007. Along with work in the Athletic Training room, Lustbader worked specifically with the Vassar College women's basketball team and the men's and women's rugby teams.

A 2007 graduate of Marist College, Lustbader received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. While at Marist, Lustbader worked as an Athletic Training Student with the football and men's lacrosse teams. In 2006-2007, Lustbader served as the President of the Marist Athletic Training Club.

Lustbader has additional experience as an Athletic Training Student at USMA at West Point, Arlington High School, and Newburgh Free Academy High School. Lustbader also served as an Athletic Trainer at Moriarty Physical Therapy in Poughkeepsie, NY in 2007.

Lustbader is licensed by the NYS Education Department and certified by the Board of Certification. Additionally, she is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer with CPR/AED and holds an American Red Cross First Aid Certification.
