The men's squash program has established a reputation for consistent play while creating a winning tradition.

The Brewers captured their second-consecutive New York State Championship in 2001, and their first under head coach Jane Parker. Vassar also captured the title in 1996, 1998 and 2000, and were second in 1995.

Winner of the Barnaby Trophy in 1981, 1987 and 1990 for most improved team, Vassar earned a national ranking of No. 11 in 1990 and 1991, No. 12 in 1992 and No. 13 in 1993.

Well-respected in the nation and popular among spectators on campus, the program has produced several fine players including Josh Easdon, who was a four-time all-American selection. In 1993, he finished fifth at the NISRA Individual Championship.

The team practices and competes on the Mary Rousmaniere Gordon Courts, which feature six international or wide courts and three narrow courts, located in Kenyon Hall. Locker rooms with showers are available in the Kenyon facility.

Besides the New York State Championship, usually hosted by Vassar, the Brewers compete against a mixture of opponents. The schedule includes national powers like Williams, mid-majos like Amherst and intrastate rivals like Hamilton.

Practices consist of drills designed to develop technique, conditioned games to improve tactical understanding along with fitness training and mental skills exercises. Internal weekly league competition simulate match conditions and ladder matches determine the team's lineup.

An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes. Conferences and associations routinely include Brewer athletes in both academic all-conference as well as all-conference lists.

Practice begins in late October and is held daily, with players attending unless there is an academic conflict. Players are generally on the court for two hours; combined with preparation and post-practice activity, the total commitment is about two and half hours a day.
