Vassar, which produced the first U.S. intercollegiate women's champion in 1965, recently regained national acclaim.

In 1993, the Brewers earned a No. 11 ranking in the final Women's Intercollegiate Squash Association poll. The Brewers won the Howe Cup division championships in 1973, 1981, 1999 and 2000. Vassar has also claimed Seven Sisters Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Individual, many players have earned all-American honors. In 1965, Clare Laura Hogenauer became Vassar's first all-American. Other all-Americans include Prudence Fenton (1975), Sara Luther (1977), Shireen Kaufman (1992-95) and Mishka Zaman (1990, 1993).

The team practices and competes on the Mary Rousmaniere Gordon Courts, which feature six international or wide courts and three narrow courts, located in Kenyon Hall. Locker rooms with showers are available in the Kenyon facility.

Vassar competes in the prestigious Seven Sisters Championship as well as other invitationals. The Brewers play a total of 20 matches against opponents of various levels from College Squash Association's national ranking.

Practices consist of drills designed to develop technique, conditioned games to improve tactical understanding along with fitness training and mental skills exercises. Internal weekly league competition simulate match conditions and ladder matches determine the team's lineup.

An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes. Conferences and associations routinely include Brewer athletes in both academic all-conference as well as all-conference lists.

Practice begins in late October and is held daily, with players attending unless there is an academic conflict. Players are generally on the court for two hours; combined with preparation and post-practice activity, the total commitment is about two and half hours a day.
