The Vassar College Men's Swimming & Diving program has seen continued success from their 2007 campaign. The men's team improved on their Liberty League and NYS conference finishes, moving up to fifth place overall in the Liberty League, tied for the highest finish in program history since 2002. In the NYS conference, the team still moved up in the final tally of points, despite finishing in the tenth place overall, without the addition of newcomers Stevens Tech joining the conference in the 2008 season, the Brewers would have have placed ninth.

Individual accomplishments helped highlight the momentum of the 2008 season, with junior John Alaimo (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) leading the way. Alaimo, the team captain, finished his season with four new Vassar College school records; the 200 IM (1:58.79), the 400 IM (4:14.20), the 200 Butterfly (2:00.56), and the 100 Freestyle (48.11). In addition to resetting the college record book, Alaimo finished in the top eight in two of his three events at the conference championship, with his 4th place finish in the 400 IM as his best performance.

Contributing to the list of new college records was junior Tom Liu (Staten Island, NY/Curtis). Liu reset his own record in the 50 Breastroke (27.90), and swam to an 8th place finish at the conference championships in the 100 yard event with a time of 1:00.74. In addition to the performances of Alaimo and Liu, sophomores Jeremy Shiman (Brookline, MA/Brookline) and Lars LaPann-Johannessen (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) joined their teammates to establish a new school record in the 200 Medley Relay with a 10th place finish overall in the event. The 2008 success of the program should set up nicely for the 2009 season, as the team will look for more strong performances in dual and championship competitions.
