Vassar's success in men's tennis is long and distinguished. As an example, the Brewers won the 2000 Salve Regina 8-College Grass Court Doubles Tournament played at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., a tournament regularly attended by many of the top programs in the East. Historically, Cliff Berck garnered Vassar's first ECAC championship when he won the 1979 Open Division II Singles title. In 2006, the team of Jared Mayer and Robert Babbage captured the ECAC doubles championship. Skartvedt '07 advanced to both the 2006 and 2005 ECAC Championship "A" Flight finals. In 1998, Ryan Lee advanced to the final of the ITA singles championship. Skartvedt advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 the Wilson/ITA Small College Regional Championship and was a quarterfinalist the previous season. An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes, who earn conference honors both academically and athletically. Most recently Ashish Patil '08 and Skartvedt earned All-Liberty League Academic and First-Team honors in both the 2007 and 2006 seasons. Skartvedt was a First-Team selection in 2005.

Accustomed to success on the courts, Vassar's men's tennis team won the 2007 Liberty League Championship after advancing to the finals in 2006 and 2005. The team was led by second year head coach Ki Kroll, who was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year. The Brewers placed senior Erik Skartvedt and junior Ashish Patil on the First-Team and had the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in freshman Mike Mattelson (pictured). In addition, Patil and Mattelson were named All-League in doubles and Mattelson was an honorable mention selection. With a strong recruiting class for the 2007-08 season, the Brewers are poised to defend their Liberty League championship.
