Women's tennis team improves to 12-3

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. --Junior Jessica Shofler (Toluca Lake, Calif.) teamed up with senior Alexis Neider (Shelton, Conn.) to defeat Ithaca College's #1 doubles team of Meghan Carroll (Somers, N.Y.) and Jen Beekman (No. Potomac, Md.) 8-3, en route to a 9-0 womenπs tennis team victory Sunday afternoon at Walker Field House.

Shofler also won her #4 singles match against sophomore Angela Tennis (Ashland, Ohio) 6-1, 6-0. Neider defeated Beekman in #2 singles 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Becky Weldon (Clinton, N.Y.) had the toughest match of the day for Vassar, defeating Ithaca's Carroll in #1 singles 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-8.

Weldon and senior Sarah Tighe (Clarks Summit, Penn.) defeated Tennis and junior Emma Jones (Glen Ridge, N.J.) in #2 doubles 8-2. Freshman Kathryn Robinette (Pine Bluff, Ark.) and junior Diya Uberoi (Princeton, N.J.) picked up a #3 doubles victory over sophomore Gretchen Fisher (Bloomington, Ind.) and freshman Katherine Dempsey (Baltimore, Md.) 8-6.

Uberoi defeated Fisher in #3 singles 6-0, 6-0. Robinette won in #5 singles over Jones 6-2, 6-1, while Tighe picked up a win in #6 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Dempsey.

Vassar (12-3) travels to Wellesley on Saturday to compete in the Seven Sisters Tournament. Ithaca falls to 10-6.
