For more than two decades, the Vassar women have made a habit of winning.

In seven of the last eight years, the Brewers have qualified for the NCAA Division III national team championship (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). Most impressively, VC has captured the Liberty League and New York State Championships six straight years (2002-2008).

The most recent ITA poll lists Vassar at No. 23 in the nation out of 366 Division III teams. In the Northeast region (110 teams) Vassar is ranked No. 7. Last season's first doubles pair of Elysa Kliman '08 and Krista Romita '09 earned a No. 28 national ranking. The pair was ranked No. 8 in the Northeast. Vassar's No. 1 singles player, Nicole Pontee '10, was ranked No. 9 regionally and No. 25 nationally. Second singles player, Kelly Barnett '08, was ranked No. 26 regionally in singles. In addition, the second doubles pair of Pontee and Jamie Steele '09 was ranked No. 25 regionally at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. Nicole Pontee (pictured) was named the Liberty League Player of the Year and earned All-American honors when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship.

In 2008, Pontee became the seventh Vassar women's team member to be named All-American. Debbie Sharnak '07 and Kelly Graham '07 were doubles All-Americans and Sharnak earned singles honors as well. Also in 2008, seven of Vassar's nine team members garnered Liberty League All-Conference honors.

Vassar plays a complete fall and spring match schedule--including a spring break trip to California or Florida--against other regional and national powers such as Williams, MIT, Wellesley, Bowdoin, and Pomona. Tournament play includes the ITA regional, the New York State Championship, Seven Sisters Championship and the Liberty League Championships. Vassar has fourteen outdoor courts and five indoor courts on campus. The roster size ranges from nine to twelve team members.

An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes. Conferences and associations routinely include Brewer athletes in both academic all-conference as well as all-conference recognition. The Brewers have won an ITA All-Academic Team Award for thirteen consecutive years and many team members have earned ITA Academic All-American honors (GPA of 3.5 or above). Two recent players, Debbie Sharnak '07 and Sarah Tighe '03, earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Awards. Additionally, in 2007 Sharnak was one of nine finalists nationally for NCAA Woman of the Year honors.
