VASSAR ADVANCES IN NCAA'S WITH A 3-1 WIN OVER UNION

Rochester, N.Y. ‚ Junior hitter McKenzie Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 26 kills and junior setter Ashley Manlove (Garrettsville, Ohio) collected 53 assists to lead Vassar College to a 3-1 victory over Union College in the first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament Thursday evening at Nazareth College.

Union held the Brewers close early, falling 34-32 in the first game, before tying the match up with a 30-25 win in the second game. Vassar put the match away with a 30-14 win in the third game, before rallying to win the fourth game 30-28.

Junior hitter Anna Tabet (Eugene, Ore.) added 12 kills and 31 digs. Senior libero Emily Harris (Piedmont, Calif.) had 35 kills. Freshman hitter Anita Stavin (Clifton Park, N.Y.) led the Brewers with four serving aces and 4.5 total blocks.

With the win, the Brewers advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA New York regionals, playing Nazareth Friday night at 7 p.m.

Nazareth received a first-round bye after finishing the regular season at 34-5.
