Since 1990, the Vassar women's volleyball team has established itself as a force in East Coast volleyball circles.

In November of 2005, the Brewers captured their fifth straight Libety League championship by sweeping rival Skidmore. The victory earned Vassar its fourth NCAA bid in the last five years (2005, 2003, 2002, 2000).

The 2005 Liberty League championship came on the heels of a 21-12 season. No team in Liberty League history has had the type of success Vassar has enjoyed. In six seasons of league play, VC has earned the championship five times. In 2005, Vassar qualified for its fourth NCAA Division III Championship in five years and qualified for its seventh New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in the past eight years. The Brewers captured the prestigious Seven Sisters Championship in 1990 and 1993. From 1991 to 1995, Vassar advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Championship.

Vassar's regular season begins in early September with the Vassar Invitational Tournament and concludes with the Liberty League Tournament in early November. With an NCAA or ECAC championship bid, the season can extend into late November. The team competes in the annual Seven Sisters Championship as well as the Vassar Invitational. The schedule also includes matches against regional foes such as Williams and New York University.

An important factor in Vassar's success has been the program's ability to attract top scholar-athletes. Conferences and associations routinely include Brewer athletes in both academic all-conference as well as all-conference lists.

Players are generally on the court for two hours; combined with preparation and post-practice activity, the total commitment is about three hours a day.
